As one of the most affordable ways to get there, Citiliner has picked out four things to do in and around the Nelspruit area. All are brilliant and all are beautiful:
Take a drive down to Kruger National Park
Just a stones throw from Nelspruit, you can get in touch with your wild side! The Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and boasts some of the best game viewing this side of the equator! See if you can spot the Big 5 on safari, bush walks, and wilderness trails. To make the most of it, spend a night or two in one of the Krugers many accommodations! Booking is essential!
Visit the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Eden Sanctuary
The Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Eden Sanctuary is a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, in the Umhloti Nature Reserve, about 15km outside of Nelspruit. This reserve serves as a sanctuary to rescued chimpanzees that have been orphaned, traded in illegal markets or rescued from entertainment industries. The chimps get to live out the remainder of their years in stress free semi-wild enclosures. The guided tours allow tourists the opportunity to gain insights into the chimps and the sanctuaries story and plea to protect these beautiful creatures. Chimpanzees are highly social and love to climb trees and swing from branch to branch, something you need to experience!
Visit one of the oldest known caves, the Sudwala Caves
The Sudwala caves were formed about 240 million years ago and are the oldest caves in the world and a popular tourism destination. The caves open up to a large amphitheatre which has hosted numerous concerts. The caves have some amazing formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and pre-Cambrian fossils. There are daily tours and certainly does not disappoint!
Head to the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens
Lowveld National Botanical Gardens is known for the two main rivers that cut through it, the Crocodile and Nels Rivers. From spectacular views to breathtaking waterfalls and magical walking trails, the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens is a must-see destination when visiting Nelspruit!
